Spring and Fall Women's Morning Camps
Two camps are run per year for women of all levels. The camps are run
in the spring and the fall in the mornings.
USTA League
Spring: Mens and Womens teams
Dates: March June
Time: Evenings or weekends.
Format: Two singles and three doubles matches.
Fall: Senior men, women (players over
50) and mixed doubles.
Dates: September February
Time: Evenings or weekends.
Format: Three doubles.
Each team will consist of 20 "active players". Teams
will be A, B1, B2 and C. The teams will be formed in September
for the coming year.
An "active player" is a player
that participates in a total of nine interclub matches or doubles
day's from September through August.
A player that can't be an "active
player" will not be able to participate.
If "active player" requirements
are not reached, the player will not play the following year. Exceptions
will be injury or illness.
WHAT AFFECTS A USTA RATING?
Computerized NTRP ratings are affected
by opponents, doubles partners and match results. Team position
played, actual number of wins and losses or team standings do not
affect computerized ratings.
Ratings are calculated for each match
played and then averaged to determine a final rating.
Two players can play the entire year
together, exclusively. At the end of the year when the ratings are
published, the two partners can have different ratings. The players
in question compete at the 3.5 level. When the new ratings are published,
player A is still a 3.5; player B becomes a 4.0. How could this
be possible?
At the start of the year, player A had
a rating of 3.26 (3.5 NTRP level), player B had a rating of 3.41
(3.5 NTRP). The improvement of each player was exactly the same:
.13. Player A's final rating (based upon the previous season match
results) was: 3.26 + .13 = 3.39. Player B's final rating was 3.41
+ .13 = 3.54.
Even though there was only a difference
of .15 between the two players, when they both improved .13, it
would be enough to push player B to the next (4.0) NTRP level. This
situation can happen at any of the NTRP levels.
Included in End of Year rating calculations
are all USTA Senior and Adult Leagues' results, as well as NTRP
tournament match results.
All players who don't have a USTA rating will
stay on the same team they are presently on, unless they "challenge
up".
Players without a USTA rating
can "challenge up" to the next level by contacting the
Tennis Director by the third Friday of September at the latest to
challenge. Challengers will play a total of three sets with different
partners from the next level. A maximum of one or two challenges
can be placed on a court. A total of one set and five games must
be won to move up a level.
